Why a Shared Company Flat Is Easy to Miss
In a home, the person who is bitten on Monday is still there on Friday and starts to wonder. In a company flat, the colleague bitten on Monday has gone home by Thursday and may never mention it. The next one assumes the marks are from the flight. By the time anyone joins the dots, several people have slept there.
So the job is to put someone in the loop: a named person, whether in facilities, the office or the letting company, who hears about any bites and checks the bed between stays.

A Changeover Check That Takes a Few Minutes
When the bed is stripped between guests, whoever does it should look at the places bedbugs settle, not just the sheets:
- The mattress piping all the way round, lifting the corners
- The headboard edge and the gap behind it
- The frame joints and the base where the mattress rests
- The luggage rack or the spot where cases are usually left
- The seams of any sofa bed or sofa used as a second bed
A torch and a note of the date are enough. If whoever does the cleaning is from an outside company, ask them to report anything they see rather than simply changing the sheets.
Simple Rules for Colleagues Staying Over
A short note in the flat does more than a policy nobody reads. Ask guests to keep suitcases on the rack, not the bed, and to tell the named person straight away if they find bites or marks on the sheets. Make clear nobody will be blamed. A guest who is worried about being blamed says nothing.
If a colleague does report bites, do not move them to another company flat with the same luggage. Get the flat looked at before the next booking. An inspection starts at £120 and tells you whether you have a problem before you cancel anyone's stay. The London guide on serviced apartments and HMOs covers flats with frequent turnover more widely.
Treating the Flat Between Bookings
The calendar is usually what decides the method. Heat treatment is usually one visit, most of a day, and the flat is usable once it has cooled, which fits a gap between two stays. Chemical treatment costs less, but the course is two or three visits about 10–14 days apart, and guests can be booked in between only if they are told and the flat is left set up as we ask.
In a tower block, heat leaves nothing behind for anything that comes in from a neighbouring flat, so we normally add a light residual at the edges afterwards. Building management may also need to know before heat equipment goes in. For companies looking after offices as well as flats, see commercial treatment in Tower Hamlets. When you ring about a flat in Canary Wharf, tell us the next booking date and we will work to it.
Bedbug Control Canary Wharf — Questions
Who should arrange treatment for a company flat?
Whoever is responsible for the flat under the lease or letting agreement, usually the company or its letting agent. We deal with whoever books.
Does the colleague who reported bites need to do anything?
Hot-wash and dry the clothes they had with them, and keep the suitcase off beds at home until it has been checked. A pharmacist or GP can help with the bites; 999 for signs of a severe allergic reaction.
Can we keep booking the flat while it is being treated?
With heat, the flat is back once it has cooled. With chemical, ask us first, because guests would be sleeping there between visits.
How much does it cost to treat a one-bedroom company flat in Canary Wharf?
Treatments start at £220, depending on the rooms and on heat or chemical. You get the figure before anything is booked.
