Find Out Before You Choose What to Keep
If you have had bites, seen spotting on a mattress, or simply want to be sure, find out before the sorting starts. Once the house is being emptied, furniture is moving from room to room and anything present gets carried about with it.
An inspection from £120 tells you whether the house has bedbugs and, if it does, which rooms and which pieces. That changes the decisions: a clean armchair can come with you; one with bedbugs needs treating first.

Treat the Old Home, Not the New One
If bedbugs are found, the time to deal with them is while everything is still in place. Heat treatment reaches the eggs as well as the adults and is usually one visit, which fits well around a moving date. Chemical treatment is usually two or three visits some ten to fourteen days apart, so it suits a move with more time in hand. Heat costs more than chemical.
Moving untreated furniture into a new flat moves the problem to a smaller space, and in a block it moves it next to neighbours. Do not let the removal date push the treatment to after the move.
What Comes With You
- Beds first. If a bed or mattress had signs and was treated, it can come. If you are replacing it anyway, leave it rather than carrying it through the house, and ask us before disposing of it.
- Clothes and linen through a hot wash. Pack them straight from the dryer into clean bags or boxes.
- Upholstery checked, piece by piece. Seams, buttons, skirts and the underside of every chair and sofa that is going.
- Hard furniture looked over. Joints, drawer runners and the backs of headboards.
- Boxes packed in clean rooms. Anything from an affected room is packed after it has been treated.
The First Weeks in the Flat
Unpack the bedroom first and sleep in your own bed from the first night, so that if anything did come with you it shows up where you are looking. Check the mattress seams weekly for a month. Leftover boxes can wait in a hallway rather than being stacked beside the bed. If bites start, ring us straight away rather than moving into the spare room; in a smaller home that only gives them a second bedroom to settle in.
If you are leaving Holland Park for a flat nearby, the Kensington and Chelsea page covers what can stay in a room during treatment and what must come out. Ring with the size of the old house and the date you hand over the keys, and we will plan around it.

Bedbug Control Holland Park — Questions
Should I get an inspection even if I have seen no signs?
It is worth it if you have had unexplained bites or if anyone who stayed recently has had bedbugs. Otherwise, a careful look at the beds yourself is a sensible start.
Can I throw out the old bed instead of treating it?
Ask us first. Carrying an affected bed through the house and down the stairs spreads bedbugs, and it may be treatable where it stands.
Can you check furniture at the new flat when it arrives?
Yes. If you are unsure about particular pieces, an inspection at the new address can look at them before they go into the bedroom.
How long before the move should treatment happen?
For heat, a few days is often enough. For a chemical course, allow several weeks for the follow-up visits.
How much will it cost to treat a house in Holland Park before moving?
Treatments start from £220 and inspections from £120. The figure depends on the rooms and method, and we give it on the phone.
