Bedbug Control Forest Hill

A clear spell, and then signs again long after the last visit.

If bedbugs turn up a week or two after treatment, that is usually hatching. This page is about the other case: several months of nothing, then bites or spotting again. It is a different problem and it needs a different response.

What a Long Gap Usually Tells Us

When bedbugs come back within the first fortnight after a chemical visit, they are nearly always eggs that hatched after we left, and the follow-up visit deals with them. Months later is another matter. A population left behind by a treatment does not normally sit quietly for that long before anyone notices.

A long clear spell points more towards bedbugs arriving again from somewhere: a trip, a piece of furniture, a visitor, or a neighbouring flat. It can also mean a small pocket was left in a spot nobody reached, which grew slowly. An inspection is how we tell the two apart. The guide to why bedbugs reappear sets out the three causes in detail.

What to Have Ready When You Ring

  1. The dates of the earlier treatment and when you first noticed signs again, as closely as you can.
  2. What was done: heat or chemical, how many visits, and which rooms were covered.
  3. Where the new signs are: the same bed, a different room, the sofa, the skirting.
  4. What changed in between: travel, guests, second-hand furniture, a new flatmate, work in the flat next door.
  5. A sample, if you can catch one, sealed in a bag or stuck to clear tape.

Those answers often point to the cause before anyone visits a Forest Hill home, and they shape what we recommend.

When the Plan Changes

  • Signs in a room that was not treated before suggest the scope was too small, or that they came in by a new route. The inspection covers the whole home.
  • Signs at the skirting nearest a neighbour in a converted house point at the flat next door, and a residual at the shared edges becomes part of the job.
  • A regular trip or visitor means the treatment has to be paired with changes to how bags and bedding come back into the house.
  • The same spot as last time means a harbourage was missed, and the answer may be a different product or heat rather than a repeat.

What we will not do is repeat the earlier treatment without working out why it came back. Treating the same room the same way again only helps if the cause is the same.

Before We Arrive

Do not reach for shop-bought sprays. They tend to push bedbugs deeper into walls and furniture and make the next treatment harder; the home remedies guide explains what those products really do. Keep sleeping in your own bed, keep the room as it is, and do not throw furniture out unless we advise it.

An inspection is from £120. If a treatment is needed, treatments start at from £220, with the final figure given on the phone. More on the borough as a whole is on the Lewisham page.

Questions

Bedbug Control Forest Hill — Questions

Does bedbugs coming back months later mean the first treatment failed?

Not necessarily. After a long clear spell, a new introduction is often more likely than survivors. An inspection is how we find out which it is.

Can I just have the same treatment again?

We would rather know why they are back first. If the cause was a missed spot or a new route in, the same treatment in the same room may not hold.

Do I need to know who treated it last time?

It helps to know what was done, how many visits and which rooms, even if it was another company.

Could a neighbour be the source?

In converted houses and blocks, yes. Signs along the shared skirting or around pipework are a common clue.

Should I use a spray while I wait?

No. Over-the-counter sprays tend to scatter bedbugs into harder places. Leave the room as it is until it has been looked at.
