Why the Other Bedrooms Are at Risk
A semi usually puts two or three bedrooms off one small landing. The rooms share a stud wall or a short run of carpet, and the people in them share a bathroom, a laundry basket and sometimes a bed when a child has a bad night. Every one of those is a route.
Bedbugs do not wander for the sake of it. They move when they are disturbed or when the host they have been feeding on stops being there. That second point is the one most households get wrong: the person who has been bitten moves into the box room, and a week later the box room has them too.

What to Do Before Anyone Comes Out
- Keep sleeping in the affected bed. It feels wrong, but it keeps them where they are. Our guide on sleeping somewhere else during treatment explains why.
- Bag the bedding in the room. Strip it, tie it in a bag before it crosses the landing, and put it straight into a hot wash.
- Stop things travelling. Clothes worn in that room go into the wash, not onto the floor of another bedroom. Nothing gets stored under the stairs or in the spare room for now.
- Leave the furniture where it stands. Dragging a bed or a chest of drawers across the landing shakes them loose on the way.
- Look at the beds either side. Check the seams and the corners of the frames in the neighbouring bedrooms so we know what we are dealing with when you ring.
One Room or the Whole Upstairs
If the other bedrooms are clean when we look, treating the one room is usually enough. Chemical treatment suits a single contained room well: the residue keeps working between visits, and the follow-up catches whatever hatches from eggs the first visit could not reach.
If a second room is already showing spotting, heat treatment across the upstairs is often the sensible call, because it deals with every life stage in each room at once and does not rely on anyone keeping to a plan for a fortnight. It costs more than chemical. If you are not sure whether the other rooms are affected, an inspection answers that before you pay for treatment.
Once It Is Treated
The bedrooms that were clean are the ones to watch. Check their mattress seams every few days for the first month. If a bite pattern starts in a room we did not treat, ring us rather than moving anybody around again. For how an infestation moves through a house over weeks, see how fast bedbugs spread through a house.
When you ring about a house in Bexleyheath, the most useful thing you can tell us is who sleeps where and whether anyone has changed rooms since the bites started. That shapes the quote more than the size of the house does. The Bexley borough page covers the first week in a family home more broadly.
Bedbug Control Bexleyheath — Questions
Should my child move into our bed while theirs is affected?
Only if we have told you your bed is clear, and even then it can carry them across. Where you can, keep people in their own beds until the treatment is done.
Do you treat the landing too?
If there is spotting on the carpet edge or the skirting outside the bedroom door, yes. If there is not, the landing is usually left alone.
How much will it cost for a three-bedroom semi in Bexleyheath?
Treatments start at £220. The figure depends on how many rooms need doing and whether it is heat or chemical, and you get it on the phone before anything is booked.
Can I wash everything from the other bedrooms as a precaution?
You can, but there is no need to empty wardrobes in rooms with no signs. Put the effort into keeping things from moving out of the affected room.
I have been bitten but my partner has not. Is it still bedbugs?
It can be. People react differently and some do not react at all. A pharmacist or GP can help with the bites themselves; call 999 if anyone shows signs of a severe allergic reaction.
