When One Room Really Is One Room
Chemical suits a house where the evidence points to one bed. The bites are on one person, or the two people who share that bed. Spotting is on that mattress and not on the others. Nobody has been sleeping around the house, and nothing has been carried out of the room.
Before paying for treatment, it is worth having the other bedrooms looked at. An inspection confirms what is there and where, and it is the difference between treating one room with confidence and hoping. If the spare room has been used recently, the Sidcup page explains why it should be checked too.
How the insecticide works and why it takes more than one visit is explained on the London chemical treatment page for the full explanation. This page is about deciding it fits, and living with it.
When We Would Point You to Heat
If a second bedroom shows signs, if a child has been moving between beds, or if the family cannot manage two or three visits a fortnight apart, heat is usually the better call. The heat treatment page for Bexley covers clearing the upstairs for a day. We will say so on the phone if your description sounds like more than one room.

Getting the Bedroom Ready, Each Time
The preparation is the same before the first visit and the second. It takes an evening, and it happens only in the affected room.
- Strip the bed, including the mattress protector, and hot-wash everything. Bag it in the room and carry it straight to the washing machine.
- Clear the floor: shoes, bags, laundry baskets, anything under the bed. Put it in sealed bags and keep it in that room.
- Leave the bed, bedside tables and wardrobe where they stand. We need to reach behind and underneath, and dragging them onto the landing moves the problem.
- Tell us about anyone in the house who is pregnant or has a breathing condition, and any caged bird or fish tank, before we arrive.
The visit takes one to two hours. Everyone, pets included, stays out of the room until the treated surfaces are dry, and the technician tells you when that is. Follow the instructions given on the day.
The Fortnight Between Visits
This is where chemical treatment is won or lost, and most of it is about not doing things.
- Keep sleeping in that bed. The person who has been bitten is what draws the bugs out across the treated surfaces. Moving them into another bedroom invites the bugs to follow. Should you sleep somewhere else goes into this.
- Leave the edges alone. Vacuum the middle of the carpet if you must, but not along the skirting where the residue sits. Do bedbugs live in carpets? explains why the edges matter.
- Keep the room’s things in the room. No clothes borrowed from that wardrobe, no toys moved to another bedroom, no bags taken out except to the washing machine.
- Wash bedding hot, and often. Straight from the bed to the machine, in a bag.
- No shop sprays or foggers. They can scatter bugs into the next room and interfere with what we applied.
- Note what you see. An odd bug in the first fortnight is expected. Write down where and when, and tell the technician at the second visit.
Keep an eye on the other bedrooms without turning the house upside down. A quick look at the mattress seams in each room once a week is enough, and how fast do bedbugs spread tells you what to look for.

The Second Visit and After
The second visit comes about ten to fourteen days after the first, timed to meet the bugs that hatched after the first treatment. Prepare the room exactly as before. If the technician still sees live activity, a third visit is booked on the same spacing.
After that, the room goes back to normal use. Report any sign of bedbugs you see afterwards; do not wait for it to get worse.
What It Costs
Treatments start from £220, and chemical is the lower-cost route. The price depends on the number of rooms and is given on the phone on 0800 955 1018 before anything is booked. For a broader view of a family house, see the Bexley bedbug control page.

Bedbug Chemical Treatment Bexley — Questions
How do I know it is only one room?
Bites on the people in one bed and spotting on one mattress are a good sign, but not proof. An inspection of the other bedrooms confirms it before you spend on treatment.
Can my child sleep in our bed while their room is treated?
We would rather they stayed in their own bed. Moving a child who is being bitten into another room is a common way for bedbugs to reach it.
How long until we can use the room after a visit?
Once the treated surfaces are dry, which the technician confirms before leaving. Follow the instructions given on the day.
We saw a bedbug a week after the first visit. Has it failed?
Not usually. Bugs still hatching from eggs cross the treated surfaces in the first fortnight. Note it and tell us at the second visit, or ring sooner if you see them in numbers.
Can we switch to heat if it spreads?
Yes. Ring us, tell us which rooms now show signs, and we will quote for heat on the new room count.
Does chemical cost less than heat for one bedroom?
Yes. Treatments start from £220, chemical is the lower of the two, and you get the exact figure on the phone.
