Before the Guest Moves
At Tower Hill, as anywhere, the instinct is to hand over a new key card straight away. Take a little longer. What moves with the guest matters more than how quickly they move.
- Choose the new room with care. Not the room next door or directly above or below, if you can avoid it.
- Offer to launder their clothes. Everything washable goes in a hot wash and a hot tumble dry, then back to them bagged.
- Deal with the suitcase. Check it on a hard floor, away from beds, and do not let it go straight onto a luggage rack in the new room.
- Leave the old room exactly as it is. Close it, take it out of service and do not strip it into a shared linen trolley.
Our guide on treating a suitcase after bedbugs is worth sending to the guest, and the London guide on what to do when a guest reports bedbugs covers the conversation itself.

Linen and Housekeeping
Bedding from the affected room should be bagged in the room and taken separately to the laundry, not added to a trolley working its way down the corridor. The housekeeper who does it should not then go straight on to make up the guest's new room with the same trolley. Small things like this are how one room becomes three.
Write down what was done and when: which room, which linen, which staff, which new room the guest went to. If the guest later raises a complaint, or a second report comes from nearby, a hotel at Tower Hill with that record can show exactly how the move was handled.
Treating the Room They Left
For a room that needs to be earning again quickly, heat treatment usually does it in one visit and kills eggs as well as adults; the room is back in use once it has cooled. Chemical treatment takes less time on each visit but needs a follow-up about 10 to 14 days later. The rooms either side are worth checking at the same time. Treatments start from £220, and the hotel page for the City of London covers how we work with hotels.
Checking the New Room
A room change is not the end of it. Ask housekeeping to look at the new room's mattress seams and headboard a few days after the move, and ask the guest to report any new bites straight away. If something turns up, treat that room too rather than moving the guest again. A hotel near Tower Hill that handles the move carefully usually keeps the problem to the one room it started in.
Before the guest checks out, ask whether anything of theirs is still in the old room, such as a coat on the back of the door or a charger by the bed. Bag it in the room and hand it over after checking it, so nothing is left behind for the technician to find on the day.
Bedbug Control Tower Hill — Questions
Should we move the guest to another hotel?
Only if you have to. Another move is another chance to carry them, and it takes the problem out of your hands. The same care with clothes and luggage applies.
The guest has bites. What should we tell them?
Bites vary and some people do not react at all. A pharmacist or GP can advise, and they should call 999 for signs of a severe allergic reaction.
Can we confirm it before treating the room?
Yes. An inspection from £120 confirms whether it is bedbugs and how far it has spread.
Is it worth treating the new room as a precaution?
Usually not straight away. Check it over the following days, and treat if anything is found. Tower Hill guests who travel on elsewhere should be told what to look for.
