Where They Hide in a Roof Bedroom
Bedbugs stay close to the bed, and in a room with a sloping ceiling the bed is usually pushed under the slope or against the low knee wall. That puts it right beside the places that are hardest to reach.
- The joint where the knee wall meets the floor, often with a strip of skirting that has shrunk away
- Small hatches or doors into the eaves, and the frames around them
- Built-in shelving and drawers fitted under the slope
- The gap where the sloping ceiling meets the knee wall, if the plaster has cracked

The Eaves Storage
Most roof bedrooms have storage behind the low walls, and it is usually packed: suitcases, spare bedding, children’s clothes, boxes that come out once a year. If a bedroom has bedbugs and the eaves door is right beside the bed, that space needs looking at too.
Please do not empty it all down the stairs in a hurry. Carrying boxes through the house is how one room becomes two. Leave the storage as it is and tell us what is in there when you ring. The guide on stored boxes explains what can survive in them and how to check before you unpack.
Heat or Chemical in a Chalet Bungalow
Heat treatment raises the whole room to a temperature bedbugs cannot survive and holds it there, and a thermal camera is used to look for cold spots. In a roof room the places to watch are the low corners and anything built in under the slope. Heat reaches into cracks and the backs of fitted drawers, it kills eggs as well, and it is usually one visit. It costs more than chemical.
Chemical treatment puts a residual insecticide into the seams of the bed, the frame, the skirtings and the joints along the knee walls. The room is usable once it is dry. Because it does not reliably kill eggs, it is usually two, sometimes three visits, about 10 to 14 days apart.
For either route, clear the floor under the slope so the edges can be reached, and strip and hot-wash the bedding.
Upstairs and Downstairs
Many chalet bungalows have one bedroom on the ground floor and one or two in the roof. It is worth checking the downstairs bedroom and the living-room sofa even if the signs are upstairs, because people move between them every day. An inspection starts from £120 and covers the whole house. The price for treatment depends on how many rooms need it; the Sutton page explains the first fortnight in a family home more broadly. In Belmont, as elsewhere, tell us the layout when you ring.
Bedbug Control Belmont — Questions
Do bedbugs get into the eaves cupboards?
They can if the bed is close to the eaves door. Leave the cupboard as it is and tell us what is stored in it, so it can be dealt with as part of the room.
Is heat treatment harder in a room with a sloping ceiling?
The shape means more corners to check, which is why the thermal camera matters. The room still comes up to a temperature bedbugs cannot survive.
Should I bring everything down from the loft before you come?
No. Moving stored things through the house spreads bedbugs. Leave them in place and describe them when you ring.
How much will a Belmont chalet bungalow cost to treat?
It depends on the number of rooms and on heat or chemical. Treatments start from £220, and you get the figure on the phone before booking.
