Bedbug Control Highams Park

It is their house and your room. Here is how to have the conversation.

Living in someone else’s home makes bedbugs doubly uncomfortable. You may worry they will think you brought them in, or that you will lose the room. Telling them quickly and plainly is still the best thing you can do, for them and for you.

Tell Them Sooner Rather Than Later

The household you live with shares a landing, a bathroom, a sofa and probably a washing machine with you. If bedbugs are in your room, the family needs to know so they can check their own beds, and so treatment can be arranged before it reaches the children’s rooms. A few days’ delay while you work up the courage can mean treating two rooms instead of one.

How to Raise It

  1. Collect what you have found. A photo of spotting on the mattress seam, or an insect in a sealed bag, is more useful than a description.
  2. Pick a calm moment. Ask to speak to whoever looks after the house, not in passing on the stairs.
  3. Stick to what you know. When you noticed it, what you saw, and that you have not moved anything out of the room.
  4. Avoid guessing where it came from. Nobody can usually say, and blame in either direction gets in the way.
  5. Follow it up in a short message so there is a note of when you told them.

Who arranges and pays for treatment depends on your agreement with the family and how the bedbugs got in. We are pest controllers, not legal advisers. Most households simply want it sorted, and giving them our number, 0800 955 1018, lets them get a figure straight away.

What to Do in Your Room Meanwhile

Keep sleeping in your own bed. Going to the sofa or a spare bed in the family’s part of the house is how bedbugs get from your room into theirs.

  • Strip your bedding into a bag inside your room and tie it before you carry it to the machine
  • Keep clothes off the floor and out of shared laundry baskets
  • Do not take cushions, blankets or bags from your room into the living room
  • Leave furniture where it is; do not drag the bed away from the wall

If you work somewhere you could carry them to, or back from, the London guide on bedbugs in the workplace is worth a look.

Getting Your Room Treated

A lodger’s room is usually full: clothes, books, a desk, perhaps a laptop and a bike. That affects the choice. Heat treatment deals with the room and its contents in one visit and kills eggs too, but anything heat can damage has to come out first, and you will be out of the room for most of the day. Chemical treatment costs less and each visit is shorter, but it needs two or three visits and you will need to clear the floor and wash your bedding before each one.

Either way, much of the preparation will fall to you, because it is your belongings. If the family would like the other bedrooms checked at the same time, an inspection starts from £120. Treatments in Highams Park start from £220, and the figure is given on the phone. The Waltham Forest page has more on getting a whole household to act together.

Questions

Bedbug Control Highams Park — Questions

Will the family ask me to leave?

We cannot answer for them. In our experience most households are more concerned with getting it treated than with who is to blame, especially when told early.

Should I take my things to a friend's while it is treated?

No. Moving belongings out untreated takes the bedbugs with them. Leave them in the room and follow the preparation list you are given.

The family has not been bitten. Does that mean it is only my room?

Not necessarily. Some people do not react to bites at all. It is worth them checking their mattress seams even if nobody has any marks.

Can I book the treatment in Highams Park myself?

You can ring us, but because it is their home the family will need to agree to the visit and access.
