Start With a Map of the Beds
Before anything is washed or moved, write down every bed in the Golders Green house and who sleeps in it. Include cots, sofa beds, camp beds and the mattress on the floor when cousins stay. Mark the ones where someone has been bitten or where you have seen spotting.
That list is the most useful thing you can give us when you ring. It tells us which rooms need treating, which only need checking, and whether it makes more sense to do the whole upstairs in one go. It also stops beds being forgotten, which is how a treated house ends up with one room still active.

Splitting the Preparation Between People
The work is the same in every bedroom; there is just more of it. Give each older child or adult a room, and give one person the washing machine.
- Bedding: strip each bed, bag it in the room, and label the bag with the room. Hot wash, then a hot dryer, then into a clean sealed bag.
- Clothes: anything on the floor, in laundry baskets or on chairs gets the same treatment. Clothes folded in closed drawers can usually stay; we will say if not.
- Floors: clear the floor, especially under beds. Toys, books and boxes go into sealed bags, not into another room.
- Children’s things: soft toys can go through a hot wash and dryer. Anything that cannot be washed, bag it and ask us.
With several beds in play, the laundry is the bottleneck. Start two or three days early if you can, and do the affected rooms first.
Heat or Chemical With a Big Household
With many rooms, the trade-off is sharper. Chemical treatment means two or three visits, and the floors and bedding have to be ready each time, which is a lot of repeated effort in a busy house. Heat treatment clears every room in one day, eggs included, but everyone has to be out, along with pets, and it costs more. Heat-sensitive things such as medication, aerosols and candles come out of every room first.
The Barnet borough page covers the wider question of treating a house where several generations live.
Where Everyone Sleeps Meanwhile
Keep people in their own beds until the treatment is done. Moving a bitten child into a parent’s bed, or everyone onto the living room floor, usually spreads them to rooms that were clear. It is hard with small children, but it keeps the job smaller. Once the house in Golders Green is treated, keep the map and check each bed every few days for the first month.
Bedbug Control Golders Green — Questions
Do you need to treat every bedroom if only two show signs?
Not always. We check the others. If they are clear, we may treat only the affected rooms; if a neighbouring room has early signs, it is usually treated too.
How long does it take to heat treat a five-bedroom house?
Most of a day, and sometimes the work is spread across more than one day in a big house. We tell you which when we quote.
Can the children stay with relatives during the treatment?
For the heat day, everyone needs to be out anyway. Send them with freshly washed clothes in a sealed bag, not the bags from their rooms.
What does it cost to treat several bedrooms in Golders Green?
Treatments start at £220 and the price rises with the number of rooms. Heat costs more than chemical. You get the figure on the phone first.
Should we throw out the children's mattresses?
Not unless we advise it. Carrying them out spreads bedbugs, and a treated mattress is normally fine to keep.
