The Three Things That Matter Most
- Bedding off, bagged, washed if you can. Strip every bed in the rooms being treated and tie the bedding into bags inside the room. If there is time for one hot wash and a full dry, do the sheets and pillowcases. If not, leave the bags sealed and wash them tomorrow.
- Floor clear around the bed. Pick up everything from the floor for about an arm's length round the bed and along the walls, and bag it. This is what lets us reach the skirting and the base of the furniture.
- For heat: the removal list. Aerosols, candles, medication, vinyl, some electronics and house plants out of the room. Keep medication with you. Pets out of the house for the day.
If those three are done, the Perivale visit can go ahead. Everything else on a longer list makes the job a little better; these make it possible.

Work room by room rather than task by task. Finish the bedding and the floor in the worst room first, then move on. If you run out of evening halfway through the second room, at least one room is fully ready, and that is easier for us to work with than three rooms each half done.
What Can Wait Until Later
- Washing every item of clothing in the wardrobe. Clothes hanging in a closed wardrobe with no signs can be dealt with after the visit.
- Deep cleaning. Vacuuming is helpful but not essential tonight.
- Sorting through boxes in the loft or under the stairs, if they are well away from the bedrooms.
- Rooms nobody has found signs in. We will tell you if they need anything.
What Not to Do Tonight
Do not empty the wardrobes and drawers onto the landing or into another room to be helpful. That spreads them to rooms that may have been clean. Do not move the bed or take the mattress downstairs. Furniture should stay where it is; we need to reach behind it, not find it in the hall.
Do not go and sleep at a friend's tonight in a panic, carrying the same clothes and bag. Sleep in your own bed one more night.
When It Genuinely Cannot Be Done
If a room is so full that even the floor round the bed cannot be cleared, or you are unwell, or you are on your own with a lot to move, ring us before the visit. We would rather move the date by a few days than treat a room we cannot reach properly. A chemical treatment with the follow-up visit may give you more time to catch up; heat is usually one visit, so the removal list has to be right on the day.
For the fuller version of the list, with more time, see our London guide on preparing for heat treatment. For anything else about homes in Ealing, the borough page is the place to start. Nobody in Perivale or anywhere else is expected to have a spotless house when we arrive.
Bedbug Control Perivale — Questions
Will you refuse to treat if the room is not fully ready?
We will tell you honestly if a room cannot be treated properly as it is. Usually a quick clear of the floor round the bed is enough to go ahead.
Do I need to wash everything before you come?
No. Bedding is the priority. Bagged clothes can be washed after the visit, as long as the bags stay sealed and in the room.
Can I move my bedside table out of the way?
Leave it where it is. Emptying the top so we can reach it is helpful; carrying it to another room is not.
I have run out of bags. What can I use?
Any bag that can be tied or sealed shut will do, including bin bags. The point is that nothing can crawl out on the way to the washing machine.
How much is treatment in Perivale?
Treatments start at £220. The price depends on the rooms and heat or chemical, and we give it to you on the phone before booking.
