Bedbug Inspections Ealing

A clear answer, in writing, before you have a difficult conversation with someone else.

Some people can live with a maybe. A childminder with parents to tell, a carer who visits other people’s homes, or a family about to have grandparents to stay usually cannot. An inspection turns a few bites and a mark on a sheet into a yes or a no, and gives you something to show people rather than a guess to pass on.

Why Being Sure Comes Before Telling Anyone

Telling parents, an employer or relatives that you might have bedbugs sets off a chain of decisions on their side. Children are kept away, a carer is taken off a round, a visit is cancelled. If it then turns out to be something else, the worry and the lost income were for nothing. If it turns out to be bedbugs and you waited weeks to find out, the conversation is harder still.

An inspection shortens that gap. We look, we tell you what we found, and you then decide who needs to know. How an inspection is carried out and what we check is on the London bedbug inspections page for the full explanation.

What You Have in Your Hand Afterwards

You get an answer on the day in plain words, and a written report. It says whether it is bedbugs; if it is not, our best view of what it is; where anything was found; and what we recommend next. That report is the thing to keep, because it is specific to your home and your date.

When you need to tell someone, you can share the finding rather than your own description of it. A parent or an employer is more likely to take a measured view of “a pest controller inspected on Tuesday and found one bedroom affected” than of “I think we might have something”.

Childminders and Home-Based Care

If children are looked after in your home, the rooms they use are part of the picture even if nobody sleeps in them overnight: a nap room, a sofa used for story time, a cot in a spare bedroom. Tell us which rooms the children use so those are included in the inspection. Timing the work around your setting and telling parents are covered on the Hanwell page.

If a child has come home from somewhere else with bites and a sleeping bag, our guide to bedbugs found after a sleepover explains what to check first.

Carers and Visitors Who Go Into Other Homes

If your work takes you into clients’ homes, the question is often whether a problem at one address is also at yours, or the other way round. An inspection of your own home tells you whether you are carrying anything between the two. It does not tell you about the client’s home; that needs looking at separately, and the person responsible for that home should arrange it.

Agencies that want a plan for staff and clients rather than one visit can read the commercial page for Ealing.

Getting the Most From the Visit

  1. Do not spray, vacuum or wash the mattress in the days before; leave the evidence where it is.
  2. Keep anything you have caught in a sealed bag or jar, and photographs of marks or bites with dates.
  3. Write down who sleeps where and who has bites, including anyone who has stayed over recently.
  4. Leave the beds made and the furniture where it is so we can look at the bed as it is used.
  5. Keep sleeping in your own bed until we have been; moving usually spreads them.

If you have seen something small and pale and are not sure it is a bedbug at all, our guide on recognising bedbug nymphs shows what the young ones look like.

If the Answer Is Yes

We tell you which rooms are involved and which treatment we would suggest, and give you a figure for it. Treatments start from £220; the heat and chemical pages for the borough explain each one in a family home. You are under no obligation to book there and then.

For bites, a pharmacist or GP can advise; reactions vary and some people have none. Signs of a severe allergic reaction need 999. Inspections start from £120. Ring 0800 955 1018 and we give you the price for your home on the phone, or read the borough page first.

Questions

Bedbug Inspections Ealing — Questions

Will the report say clearly whether it is bedbugs?

Yes. It says whether bedbugs were found, where, and what we recommend. If it is something else, it gives our best view of what.

Can I show the report to parents or my employer?

Yes. It is your report and you decide who sees it. Many people find it easier to share a written finding than to explain it themselves.

Do I have to stop childminding until the inspection?

That is your decision and may depend on your registration body’s guidance. Booking an inspection quickly means you are deciding on facts.

Should I clean before you come?

Keep the house as normal, but do not spray, vacuum the mattress or wash the bedding specially. That can hide the signs we are looking for.

What if nothing is found?

The report says so and gives our best view of what might be causing the bites or marks. You then know what you are telling people.

How much is an inspection?

Inspections start from £120, and the price for your home is given on the phone before the visit.
