Why One Locked Room Matters
Bedbugs move between rooms along skirtings, under doors, through gaps around pipes and, above all, in things people carry: laundry, bags, a borrowed hoodie. In a shared house the kitchen and hallway are common ground, so the bugs from one bedroom can reach another without anyone noticing.
If four rooms are treated and the fifth stays locked, the fifth keeps a population that can walk back out once the residual in the others weakens. That is the most common reason a house needs treating twice.

Agreeing Access Before We Arrive
- Tell the landlord or agent in writing that you have bedbugs, and that the whole house needs checking. In most shared lets the landlord arranges treatment, but who pays depends on the tenancy.
- Share one date with everyone. A message to the whole house, with the day and a rough time, avoids anyone finding a stranger outside their door.
- Each tenant chooses how to give access. Being in, leaving the key with a housemate or the agent, or unlocking the room before work all work.
- Each room gets prepared by the person who lives in it. Bedding off and bagged, floor cleared, belongings bagged so we are not handling them.
We treat furniture, seams, frames and edges. We do not open private drawers or go through belongings, and a tenant is welcome to be there while we look round. Anyone who would rather not be around can leave the room unlocked and know nothing will be moved beyond what the treatment needs.
If Someone Will Not Open Up
Sometimes one housemate thinks their room is fine and sees no reason to let anyone in, or simply works odd hours and is never around. It helps to explain that the treatment is about the house, not about blame, and that bites are not a reliable guide: some people never react. If they still refuse, it is a matter for the landlord or agent, not the other tenants. We are pest controllers and cannot advise on tenancy rights.
An inspection from £120 can show which rooms are affected, which sometimes persuades the doubter, or reassures everyone that one room really is clear.
Heat, Chemical and a House of Strangers
Chemical treatment means going back for a follow-up, usually about two weeks later and sometimes a third time, so access has to be agreed for each visit, not just the first. Heat is normally one day, so the house only has to sort access once, though it costs more. Treatments start from £220 and the figure for the house is given on the phone. Bedbug Control Finsbury Park — Questions
Do you need to go into my room if I have no bites?
Usually, yes. Some people do not react to bites, and an untreated room can reinfest the others.
Can I stay in my room while you treat it?
Yes, for a chemical visit, until we start spraying; you can then come back once it is dry. For heat, the room has to be empty of people and pets.
Will you look through my things?
No. We treat the bed, furniture and edges. Bag your belongings beforehand and we leave them alone.
Who pays in a Finsbury Park shared house?
It depends on the tenancy and on the cause. Report it to the landlord or agent in writing.
What if only my room has them?
An inspection can show that. If the others are genuinely clear, the treatment can be focused on your room.
