Why a Bite Is Not an Answer
Bites are the worst evidence there is. Mosquitoes, fleas, dry skin, a new washing powder or a reaction to something else entirely can leave marks that look exactly like the ones you remember. And some people barely react to bedbugs at all, so a clear arm does not prove the bed is clear either.
What settles it is the bed itself. Spotting on the seams, cast skins, eggs in the joints of the frame, or the bug. If none of those are there, it is very unlikely to be bedbugs. The London guide to bites and marks that are something else goes through the usual suspects.

Check Once, Properly, Then Stop
Checking the bed every night keeps the anxiety going without telling you much more. A thorough check once a week is better, done the same way each time so you can compare.
- Strip the bed. Look along every seam and the piping of the mattress in good light, with a torch held low.
- Lift the mattress. Check the base, the slats and the joints where the frame is screwed together.
- Look behind the headboard. This is where they came back from last time for a lot of people.
- Write down what you saw. A date and a note, even if the answer is nothing. Photograph anything you are unsure of.
Our guide on how to check your own bed covers the full sequence, and signs treatment has worked explains what the weeks after a treatment normally look like.
When It Is Worth Ringing Us
Ring if you find fresh spotting, a live bug, eggs or cast skins. Ring too if you have been bitten in a new pattern for more than a week and cannot find anything, because they can hide in places people do not look. Send a photograph if you have one; it often answers the question straight away.
If you want a definite answer, an inspection from £120 means one of us goes through the room properly and tells you what is there and what is not. For many people in Palmers Green who have been through this before, that answer is what lets them sleep again.
If They Really Are Back
A return usually means one of two things: a few survived somewhere that was not reached, or they have come in again from outside. Either way, tell us what was treated last time, how, and when. If eggs may have been the problem, heat is worth considering because it deals with every life stage. Treatments start at £220 in Palmers Green and across Enfield; the price is set on the phone.
Bedbug Control Palmers Green — Questions
I was treated a month ago and still get the odd bite. Is that normal?
It can be, especially after chemical treatment, where eggs hatch and meet the residue. The follow-up visit is there for this. If it has been longer, or it is getting worse, ring us.
Could I have brought them back from work or a trip?
It is possible. Luggage, bags and coats are the usual carriers. Checking your bed will tell you whether they have settled in.
Is it worth buying mattress encasements?
They make checking easier because the bugs cannot hide inside the mattress. They do not treat an infestation on their own.
I cannot sleep for worrying. What would help?
A fixed weekly check and, if you need it, an inspection to get a definite answer. If the worry is affecting your health, your GP can help with that side of it.
