Hotel Bedbug Treatment Enfield

For owner-run hotels and guest houses with a handful of rooms and no spare staff.

A small hotel on the edge of London runs on a few people doing everything. When a guest finds a bedbug, the owner is usually the one who hears about it, strips the room, answers the phone and works out what to do with tonight’s booking. This page is about getting through that with the fewest rooms out of use, and without guessing at each step.

When There Is No Housekeeping Department

Large hotels have a procedure and someone whose job it is. In a guest house or a small roadside hotel, it is whoever is on. That person needs a short, clear order of things to do, pinned up where the keys are kept. The London hotel bedbug treatment page gives the full explanation of the process; what follows is the short version for a small operator.

  1. Close the room on the booking system first, before anything else, so it is not resold tonight.
  2. Bag the bedding inside the room, tie the bags, and carry them straight to the washing machine or the laundry collection. Tell an outside laundry what is in the bags.
  3. Leave the bed, mattress and furniture where they are. Do not swap the mattress with another room.
  4. Write down the room number, the date, what the guest reported and what you saw.
  5. Ring us. We ask how many rooms share a wall, a ceiling or a floor with the one affected.

The Guest in Front of You

The guest wants to be believed and to know their belongings will not go home with bedbugs. Move them to a room away from the affected one, not the one next door. Offer them a way to check their luggage on a hard floor rather than on a bed. For skin reactions, point them to a pharmacist or GP, and if anyone shows signs of a severe allergic reaction, call 999.

Keep the conversation factual and calm, and write down what they tell you while it is fresh. You do not need to say more than that the room is closed and being dealt with. Whether and how you compensate them is a business decision for you.

Heat or Chemical When Rooms Are Few

With eight or ten rooms, each one out of use is a large part of the week’s takings. Heat usually treats a room in one visit and hands it back that evening once it has cooled, which suits a place that cannot hold a room empty. Chemical costs less, and the room is back once the surfaces are dry, but the course has at least one return visit to fit around bookings.

We talk through which suits your rooms and your diary on the phone. The borough pages on heat treatment in Enfield and chemical treatment in Enfield are written for homes, but explain what each route asks of the building.

The Rooms Around It

In a converted house or a small block, the affected room shares walls with rooms on both sides and possibly above and below. Before you reopen neighbouring rooms, have them looked at. An inspection of the rooms around it starts from £120 and tells you whether you are treating one room or a corridor.

If you live on site, include your own rooms in that conversation. Owners who handle bedding every day are the people most likely to carry a bedbug upstairs to the family flat.

Checking Rooms Between Guests

A small operator cannot inspect every room in depth every day, but a quick look at the right places when changing a bed catches most problems early. Lift the corner of the mattress, look along the piping and the headboard, and glance at the joint where the bed frame meets the wall. The London guide on where hotels should check goes through it in more detail.

Train whoever does the rooms to stop and tell you, rather than finish the bed and move on. A tiny dark spot on a seam costs far less to deal with this week than next month. Keep a torch with the cleaning trolley so the check takes no extra trip.

What It Costs

Hotel work is quoted on the rooms involved, and treatments start from £220. Heat costs more than chemical. Ring 0800 955 1018 with the room numbers and how they sit in the building, and we give you the figure before anything is booked. The Enfield bedbug control page covers the borough as a whole.

Questions

Hotel Bedbug Treatment Enfield — Questions

Should I close the whole guest house?

Rarely. Close the affected room and have the rooms around it checked. Most small places carry on trading with a room or two out of use.

Can I put the guest in the room next door?

Better not. Move them to a room with no shared wall, ceiling or floor with the affected one.

How soon can the room be let again?

After heat, usually that evening once it has cooled. After chemical, once the surfaces are dry, with a return visit to plan around.

Should I throw away the mattress?

No, not unless we advise it. Carrying it through the building spreads bedbugs, and a new mattress on an untreated frame is soon affected.

Do you work around our check-in times?

Tell us your busy times and we will say honestly what slots we can offer.

How is hotel work priced?

On the rooms involved. Treatments start from £220 and room inspections from £120; you get the figure on the phone first.
