How a Tall House Changes the Search
A flat has one level to check. A Victorian terrace with a loft conversion and a lower ground floor has three or four, joined by a single staircase that everyone uses with laundry, bags and bedding in their arms. Bedbugs travel on those things far more than they walk from floor to floor.
So the question is not only where the bites are. It is where anything from that bedroom has been put down since: the washing pile at the bottom of the stairs, the spare duvet in the loft, the sofa in the basement where someone has been sleeping.

Checking Each Level
- Loft room. Look along the bed seams, the frame joints and the skirting under the eaves, and in any storage tucked into the slope of the roof.
- Main bedroom floors. Check every bed, not just the one with bites, and the skirting nearest each headboard.
- Ground floor. Sofas and armchairs, especially where anyone naps or has slept after a bad night upstairs.
- Basement or lower ground. Guest beds, sofa beds and anything stored down there from an upstairs room.
Write down what you find on each floor, even if it is nothing. A clean floor is useful information when we are pricing the job. If you cannot tell what you are looking at, a phone photo helps; our guide on photographing a bedbug shows how to get one we can use.
Which Floors to Treat
If the signs are on one floor only, we treat that floor and you keep a close watch on the rest. If two floors show signs, treating only the worse one tends to leave the job half done. Heat suits several rooms across a house because it reaches every life stage in one visit, and the borough heat treatment page covers how a day in a house like this is run. Chemical costs less and works well on a single floor if you keep to the follow-up visits; the chemical treatment page explains the course.
An inspection from £120 is worth considering in a big house where nobody is sure how far it has gone. Paying to treat four floors when one would do is the expensive mistake.
While You Wait for Treatment
Stop moving bedding, clothes and people between floors. Anyone who has been bitten keeps sleeping in their own bed. Laundry from the affected room is bagged in the room and carried straight to the machine. Nothing new goes up to the loft or down to the basement for storage until we have been. Bedbug Control Fulham — Questions
Bites are only in the loft room. Do the other floors need treating?
Not necessarily. If the lower floors are clean when checked, treating the loft room can be enough, as long as nothing from it is moved downstairs in the meantime.
Do you treat the staircase?
If there is spotting on the stair edges or the skirting on the landings, it gets treated. If there is none, the stairs are usually left alone.
Is a basement bedroom harder to treat?
Not in itself. What matters is what is stored down there and whether heat-sensitive items can come out before the day.
How much for a whole terrace in Fulham?
Treatments start at £220. A house over three floors is priced on the number of rooms and on heat or chemical, and you get the figure on the phone before anything is booked.
Should I sleep downstairs until it is sorted?
Usually not. Moving to another floor tends to take them with you. Stay in your own bed and ring us.
