Give the Bag a Place of Its Own
The single most useful change is where the bag lives when you are not working. Pick a spot by the front door, on a hard floor, away from beds and sofas. Never drop it on the bed or leave it beside it overnight. The same goes for the jacket and helmet: a hook in the hall is better than the back of a bedroom chair.
- Empty it fully at the end of a shift, including side pockets.
- Wipe the inside and look along the seams and zips with a torch once a week.
- Vacuum the outside seams and the base, where it has sat on other people’s floors.
- Wash the soft parts: straps, covers and any fabric liner, if they come off, on the hottest wash they allow.
Vacuuming helps but has limits; our vacuuming guide explains what it removes, what it leaves, and how to empty the machine without spreading anything.

Work Clothes and the Changeover
Change out of work clothes near the door if you can, and put them into a bag or straight into the machine. Keep a laundry bag for work kit only. It sounds fussy, but it means anything picked up during the day never gets as far as the bedroom floor, and it takes seconds once it is a habit.
If You Find Bedbugs at Home
Look at the bag first, then the bed. Bugs in the bag seams and none in the bedroom means you have caught it early; bugs in the mattress and frame means the room needs treating too. Either way, keep sleeping in your own bed and do not bin your kit. Bag it, seal it and ring us.
When you book, tell us about the bag and what it is made of. Insulated bags have foam and plastic layers, and some of those do not like heat. We will say whether it goes in the room during heat treatment or is dealt with another way. Chemical treatment costs less and suits many flats, but needs two or three visits, so plan shifts around them.
Fitting Treatment Around Shifts
Heat takes most of one day, with the room empty of people and pets, which for a rider can mean one lost day rather than several short gaps. Chemical visits are shorter, one to two hours, and you can go back into the room once it is dry. Treatments start from £220, depending on rooms and method, and the figure is given on the phone. The Tottenham page covers second-hand furniture, and the Haringey page the wider borough. Riders based in South Tottenham can ring 0800 955 1018 between shifts; if your bag and bed look clean, an inspection from £120 settles it.
Bedbug Control South Tottenham — Questions
Can I pick up bedbugs from a restaurant floor?
It is possible anywhere people sit or sleep, but it is not common. Keeping the bag away from the bedroom is the sensible precaution.
Should I buy a new delivery bag?
Only if yours is damaged. A new bag kept on the bed would pick them up just the same. Where it lives matters more.
Do I need to tell the platform or my employer?
That is up to you and the terms of your work. If the kit belongs to them, it is sensible to let them know.
Can the bag go in the tumble dryer?
Soft covers and liners often can, if the label allows. Insulated shells usually cannot. Ask us if you are unsure.
I keep getting bites but see nothing. What now?
Check the mattress seams and frame joints closely. If you still find nothing, an inspection confirms whether it is bedbugs at all.
