Work Back From the Due Date
Babies arrive early as often as late, so treat the due date as the latest point, not the target. Count back and ask how many weeks the treatment will take, then add some room.
- Chemical is usually two, sometimes three visits, roughly 10 to 14 days apart. From first visit to last can be a month or more.
- Heat is usually one visit, most of a day, and eggs are killed at the same time, so the job can be finished within days of ringing.
- An inspection from £120 first, if you are not sure it is bedbugs, adds a little time but means nobody is treating a problem you do not have.
If the birth is close, that difference often decides it. Heat costs more than chemical, and both start from £220, priced by rooms and given on the phone before anything is booked.

If You Are Pregnant in the House
Tell us when you ring, and tell us about anyone else in the house who is unwell or very young. We will explain exactly what happens on the day, how long to stay out, and when you can go back into the room. Follow those instructions. If you have questions about your own health, your midwife or GP is the right person to ask. For bites, a pharmacist or GP can help, and 999 is for any sign of a severe allergic reaction.
The Nursery Can Wait
Hold off setting up the cot and the changing station until the treatment is done. A new cot left flat-packed and sealed in its box, in a room with no bugs, stays clean. Assembled in the affected bedroom, it becomes one more frame full of joints to treat.
Wash baby clothes, muslins and blankets as they arrive, dry them hot, and keep them in sealed bags or plastic boxes rather than open drawers. The hospital bag can be packed from those clean stores and kept zipped in the hall rather than under your bed.
Getting the House Ready Around Your Energy
Preparing for treatment means stripping beds, clearing floors and, for heat, taking out heat-sensitive things such as aerosols, candles, medication and plants. Late in pregnancy, that is a job for someone else in the household or a friend. Keep sleeping in your own bed until then; moving to another room usually spreads them. Do not throw out the mattress; it can almost always be treated.
Bounds Green households who ring early have the most choice of dates. For the wider picture, see the Haringey page, or how many bedbugs make an infestation if you are trying to judge how far it has gone. A quick call to 0800 955 1018 gets you a price and a Bounds Green date.
Bedbug Control Bounds Green — Questions
Can we have treatment in the last weeks of pregnancy?
Yes, many families do, but earlier gives you more room. Tell us your due date on the phone and we will plan around it.
Which treatment is quicker to finish?
Heat, usually. It is normally one visit and kills eggs, while a chemical course runs over several weeks.
Should the new cot and pram stay out of the house?
Keep them sealed in their packaging, away from the affected room, until treatment is finished. Then set them up.
What if bedbugs come back after the baby is born?
Ring us. We will go through what we treated and what to check. It is better dealt with early than left while you are short of sleep.
Can I stay with family until the baby arrives?
You can, but bugs travel in bags and clothes, and sleeping elsewhere can take them with you. Speak to us before you go.
