What the Price Actually Covers
A chemical course is quoted as a whole, not visit by visit, and it is priced on the number of rooms. In most homes that means two visits, sometimes three, spaced roughly ten days to a fortnight apart so that bugs hatching from eggs the first visit could not reach meet the insecticide on the second. Treatments start from £220, and you hear the full figure on the phone before you book.
The method itself, where the residual goes and why it does not reliably kill eggs, is set out on the London chemical treatment page for the full explanation. What follows is the practical money side.
Where Households Lose Money Without Meaning To
Most repeat work we see comes from a handful of avoidable mistakes rather than from the treatment failing on its own. The common ones:
- Leaving a room off the quote. A spare room with a sofa bed, or a bedroom someone only uses at weekends, is still somewhere bedbugs can wait out the course.
- Spraying before we arrive. Shop sprays can push bedbugs deeper into furniture and walls, which makes the professional treatment harder, not easier.
- Throwing out the bed. Carrying a mattress down the stairs and out of the front door spreads bugs through the house on the way, and then you are buying a new bed as well.
- Moving to the sofa. Sleeping elsewhere usually spreads them to the room you moved into.
- Skipping the second visit. Feeling better after the first is common. The eggs have not read the paperwork.

Choosing Chemical in a Semi-Detached House
In a typical Harrow semi the bedrooms share a landing and often a wall with the house next door. Chemical works well here when the problem is limited to one or two rooms and has been found reasonably early. The technician treats the seams and joints of the bed, the frame, the skirting and the edges of the carpet, and the other hiding places close to where people sleep.
Where the signs are in every bedroom, or in an extension or loft room as well as the original part of the house, heat may cost more on the day but less overall. The heat treatment page for Harrow covers that kind of house. We will tell you honestly which we think suits yours.
Getting Each Visit Right
Each visit lasts one to two hours. What you do before we arrive decides how much of the room the technician can actually reach in that time.
- Strip the beds and put the bedding straight into sealed bags, then hot-wash and dry it.
- Clear the floor, especially under the bed and along the skirting, so the edges can be treated.
- Pull the bed a little away from the wall if you can do it without dragging it through other rooms.
- Leave drawers and wardrobes closed unless we ask you to empty them; we tell you on the phone.
- Keep children and pets out of the treated rooms until the surfaces are dry, and follow the instructions we give you on the day.
Between visits, the routine at home matters as much as the treatment. The South Harrow page goes through that fortnight in detail, and the guide on sleeping while you wait for treatment covers the nights before the first visit.

When a Third Visit Is Needed
Sometimes a third visit is part of the plan from the start, usually where the infestation is well established or the room is heavily furnished. Sometimes it becomes necessary because signs are still turning up after the second. Either way, we explain why before it happens, and it is discussed on the phone rather than added without warning.
The single best way to keep the course to two visits is to tell us everything at the start: every room used for sleeping, any furniture brought in recently, and anything you have already tried.
Before You Commit
If you are not certain the problem is bedbugs, paying for a treatment course first is the expensive way to find out. Inspections start from £120, and the Harrow inspection page explains when it is worth doing. Ring 0800 955 1018 with the number of rooms and we will talk through both routes. The Harrow bedbug control page has more on treating a family house.

Bedbug Chemical Treatment Harrow — Questions
Does chemical treatment cost less than heat?
Yes. Both start from £220, but heat costs more because of the equipment and the time on site. The exact figure depends on the number of rooms.
Is the price for one visit or the whole course?
We quote for the course, which is usually two visits and sometimes three. You hear the figure on the phone before anything is booked.
Can I spray the room myself to save a visit?
Please do not. Shop sprays tend to scatter bedbugs and make the professional treatment harder.
Why does the second visit matter if the bites have stopped?
Chemical treatment does not reliably kill eggs, so the second visit catches the bugs that hatch after the first. Skipping it is the most common reason a course fails.
How long before we can use the room again?
Once the treated surfaces are dry. We tell you on the day, and you follow those instructions.
Should we get rid of the mattress to save on treatment?
No, not unless we advise it. Moving a mattress through the house spreads bedbugs, and it is usually treated in place.
