A Quick Check of Wherever You Are Staying
Before you unpack in a Marylebone hotel or flat, put the bags on a hard floor or a luggage rack. Lift a corner of the mattress and look along the seam and the piping with your phone torch. Look at the headboard edge and the corners of the bed frame. Small dark spots, pale skins or a flat brown insect are the things to look for.
If you see nothing, unpack as normal but keep the cases zipped and off the bed. If you are moving between several places, do the check at each one. It takes no longer than it takes to find the light switch.

Keeping Your Bags Clean While You Move About
- Keep one bag for the day and leave the main case closed in the room.
- Do not put bags on beds, including in someone else's home.
- Put worn clothes in a separate tied bag until they can be washed hot.
- If a launderette is easier than the hotel laundry, take the clothes there in that bag.
None of this is about any particular place in Marylebone. It is the same routine anyone should use in a room they did not choose and cannot check properly.
If You Find Bedbugs Where You Are Staying
Tell whoever provides the room: the front desk, the landlord or the relative whose spare room it is. Do it in writing if it is a hotel or a let. Ask them to look at the room. Keep your belongings sealed in the meantime, and resist the urge to move everything to another room straight away without washing it first; the bags go with you, and so can the bedbugs. Our hotel page for Westminster covers what a hotel should do on its side.
If the room is changed for you, wash what you have been wearing and check the bags before they go into the new room. Ask for a room that is not directly next to or above the old one if there is a choice; it is not a certainty either way, but it does not hurt to ask.
If you find one on the pillow at night, our guide on what to do tonight takes you through it. Keep the insect if you can.
Going Home at the End
When you leave Marylebone, unpack at home on a hard floor, send every piece of clothing through a hot wash or dryer, and check the empty cases before they go back in a cupboard. If bites start at home in the weeks after, keep sleeping in your own bed and ring us. An inspection confirms whether they came home before any money is spent on treatment. If they did, treatments start from £220, heat or chemical. The Westminster page covers how bedbugs move between short stays and homes.
Bedbug Control Marylebone — Questions
Should I bring clean clothes to my relative from where I am staying?
Wash them hot first and carry them in a fresh bag. That applies wherever the clothes are going.
The spare room I am in belongs to family. How do I raise it?
Plainly and early. Show them what you found and suggest an inspection. It is easier to deal with than a problem that has spread through two homes.
I have bites. Should I see someone?
A pharmacist or GP can advise on skin reactions. Call 999 for any sign of a severe allergic reaction. Some people do not react at all, so bites are not a reliable test.
Can you treat a room while I am staying in it?
Yes, if the provider arranges it. You would need to clear the floor and bag your things first, and follow the instructions given on the day.
