Thermal Pest Control — bedbug control in Westminster, chemical and heat treatments

Bedbug Control Paddington

Shared rooms, shared kitchens and a uniform that goes to work every day.

When your employer houses you, the room is your home but not yours to arrange work on. Bedbugs in staff accommodation affect your sleep, your belongings and the people you share with, and they need reporting properly.

Why Staff Housing Needs a Plan, Not One Room

Staff accommodation in Paddington usually means several people in rooms off a shared corridor, with people arriving and leaving as contracts start and finish. New arrivals bring luggage from wherever they stayed before. Furniture gets moved between rooms. A single affected bedroom can reach two or three others within weeks.

The other link is work itself. Uniforms, bags and coats go between your room and the hotel every shift. That is why the employer needs to know quickly: a problem in a staff house is also something the hotel will want to keep out of its guest rooms.

Report It the Right Way

  1. Tell your manager or whoever runs the accommodation, in writing. Include the date, the room and what you found. Keep a copy.
  2. Keep a specimen if you can. A bedbug on tape or in a sealed bag makes identification simple.
  3. Mention if others in the house have bites or have seen signs. It tells us how many rooms to look at.
  4. Do not swap rooms or beds. Moving onto a colleague's floor is how the next room gets them.

Who arranges and pays for treatment depends on your employment and accommodation terms and on the cause. We are pest controllers, not legal advisers.

Protecting Your Own Belongings

Your clothes and bags are the part you can control. Bag and hot-wash or tumble-dry everything that can take it. Keep the washed things sealed until the room is treated. Keep your bags zipped and off the bed and floor. Take your uniform to work in a clean tied bag rather than wearing it from the room, if your employer allows that.

Items that cannot be washed, such as a padded jacket or a soft case, should stay sealed until someone has looked at them. If you keep houseplants in your room, they come out before heat; our guide on bedbugs and houseplants explains why.

How Staff Rooms Are Treated

Treating the Paddington rooms is arranged by the employer or the building's manager. Heat treatment usually clears each room in one visit, eggs included, and suits a house where people are working shifts and cannot keep to a long course of preparation. Chemical treatment costs less per room and leaves a residue, but needs two or three visits. Treatments start from £220, and larger jobs are quoted on the rooms involved.

For employers, our commercial page for Westminster covers staff accommodation across several rooms. For the hotel side, see the hotel page. After treatment, our guide on when you can sleep in your bed again tells you what to expect in Paddington or anywhere else.

Questions

Bedbug Control Paddington — Questions

Can I be told to leave my staff room because of bedbugs?

That depends on your terms, and it is not something we can advise on. Moving people out is not usually needed for the treatment itself.

Do I need to wash my uniform differently?

A hot wash or hot tumble dry is enough. Keep it bagged between the machine and work until the room is treated.

A new starter has just moved in. Should their things be checked?

It is sensible to check any luggage coming into a house with a known problem, and to keep it off beds until the rooms are treated.

How much does treating staff accommodation cost?

Treatments start from £220. For several rooms the figure is quoted on the rooms involved and whether it is heat or chemical.

My roommate gets bites and I do not. Could I still have them?

Yes. Some people do not react at all. A pharmacist or GP can help with bites; call 999 for signs of a severe allergic reaction.
