Why Bites Can Go Unnoticed
Someone who is frail, has limited feeling in their skin or finds it hard to communicate may not mention bites at all, and some people simply do not react. The first sign is often something a carer spots: small marks on the arms, or dark spotting on the sheets when the bed is changed.
So check the room itself. Look along the mattress edge, the frame joints and the gaps around any bed rails. If you are unsure what you are looking at, an inspection from £120 confirms it before anything is treated.

Care Equipment in the Room
A respite room often has more in it than a normal spare room. Tell us about all of it when you ring:
- Profiling or adjustable beds, with motors and handsets
- Pressure-relief mattresses and the pumps that run them
- Hoists, commodes and walking aids
- Medication, dressings and creams, which must come out before heat
- Anything on loan from a care provider, which you may need to ask them about first
Some of this equipment is heat-sensitive, and some belongs to someone else. We go through it with you before a visit is booked, not on the morning.
Timing Treatment Between Stays
The best time to treat is while the room is empty, between one stay and the next. Heat treatment fits that well: it is usually one visit that takes most of a day, kills eggs too, and the room is usable once it has cooled. It costs more than chemical.
Chemical treatment is usually two or three visits about ten to fourteen days apart, so check it fits the gap before the next stay. Your relative can return once the treated surfaces are dry, and we will tell you what to do on the day. Follow those instructions closely, and ask if anything about their health makes you unsure.
Before the Next Stay
Wash their bedding and clothes hot and dry them hot when they arrive and when they leave. Keep their bags on a hard floor rather than on the bed. If bedbugs could have come with them, the place they normally live may need checking as well, and it helps to raise that kindly with them or their carers rather than let it go unsaid.
A household in Eastcote that has a relative coming and going is exactly the sort the Hillingdon page is written for. If you want to know how far from the bed to look in the rest of the house, see how far bedbugs travel from the bed.
Talking to Carers and Visitors
Paid carers and family who help out move between homes as part of their day. Tell them what has been found and when treatment is booked, so they can keep their own bags and coats off the bed and off upholstered chairs while they are with you. Nobody needs to be blamed; the aim is simply that nothing travels in either direction until the room is clear.
Keep a short written note of the dates: when the signs were found, when each visit took place, and what was done with the bedding. If the care provider or another relative asks later, you will have the answer to hand rather than trying to remember.
Bedbug Control Eastcote — Questions
Can my relative stay in the house during heat treatment?
Not in the treated rooms, and usually it is easier for everyone to be out for the day. If that is difficult, tell us and we will plan it around them.
Does the pressure mattress need replacing?
Not automatically. Tell us what it is and who supplied it, and we will talk through how it is dealt with.
They have a skin reaction. Who should we speak to?
A pharmacist or GP can help. If there are signs of a severe allergic reaction, call 999.
How much does it cost in Eastcote?
Treatments start at £220. The figure depends on how many rooms and on heat or chemical, and you hear it on the phone before anything is booked.
