How a Room Without a Bed Gets Bedbugs
Bedbugs feed on whoever keeps still. A film night, a teenager gaming until late or a friend who stays over on the big sofa all give them the same chance a bed does. They can arrive in a bag or a coat dropped on the seats, or wander down from a bedroom that already has them.
The telling sign is bites that turn up after evenings in that room rather than after a night in bed. Look at the undersides of cushions, the seams of the arms and the fabric where the seat meets the back.

The Furniture, Piece by Piece
- Fixed sofas. Treated where they stand. The underside, the frame and the gap behind the back cushions are where we look first.
- Recliners. The footrest mechanism and the fabric around it give bedbugs a lot of shelter. Tell us which seats recline and whether any are powered.
- Beanbags. The zip and seams hide them and the beads inside cannot go in a washing machine. A removable outer cover can be washed hot and dried hot; the inner bag stays in the room for treatment.
- Cushions and throws. Covers and throws go into a hot wash and a hot dryer. Loose scatter cushions can be treated with the room.
- Consoles, speakers and projectors. Some electronics are sensitive to heat, so we will talk through what stays and what comes out.
There is no need to throw furniture out. Dragging a sofa through the house and out of the front door is one of the quickest ways to spread the problem to the hall.
Heat or Chemical for Soft Seating
Heat treatment reaches into padding, beanbag fill and the inside of recliner frames, and deals with eggs as well. It is usually one visit taking most of a day, and costs more than chemical. The thermal camera is used to check the middle of heavy seating, which warms more slowly than the air around it.
Chemical treatment goes into seams, frames and skirtings rather than over the surfaces you sit on, and is usually two or three visits about ten to fourteen days apart. In a room crowded with upholstery, the more of it there is, the harder it is to reach every hiding place that way.
Check the Bedrooms Too
If the games room in a Northwood house has bedbugs, it is worth knowing whether they started there or came from upstairs. Check the beds of whoever uses the room most. If you would rather not guess, an inspection from £120 covers the whole house. The Hillingdon page has more on treating a house with people coming and going.
Bedbug Control Northwood — Questions
Do I need to get rid of the beanbags?
Not usually. Wash the outer cover hot if it comes off, and leave the inner bag in the room to be treated. Tell us how many there are.
Can the recliners stay plugged in during heat treatment?
Tell us which ones are powered when you book. Electronics are one of the things we go through with you before the day.
Should we stop using the room until it is treated?
Keep using it rather than moving the sofa sessions to another room, which can take bedbugs with you. Do not carry cushions or throws elsewhere in the house.
How much does it cost to treat a games room in Northwood?
Treatments start at £220. The figure depends on the number of rooms and whether it is heat or chemical, and you get it on the phone before anything is booked.
