Three Dates You Have to Keep
Each visit takes one to two hours. The second follows about ten to fourteen days after the first, and a third is sometimes needed. The gap is there because the insecticide does not reliably kill eggs, so the later visits catch what hatches in between. The London chemical treatment page has the full explanation of where the product goes and why.
For a shift worker, the practical point is this: a visit that slips by a week gives the young ones time to grow and lay eggs of their own. It is better to book all the dates at the start, with your rota in front of you, than to ring for each one when you remember.
Lining the Visits Up With Your Rota
Bring your shift pattern for the next month to the call. We look at it with you and try to put each visit on a day you are off or on a late start. Some things to think about:
- Mark the days you finish a night shift; you will want to sleep, so do not book a visit then.
- Look for a day off roughly ten to fourteen days after the first visit for the second.
- Hold one more day off after that in case a third visit is needed.
- If your rota changes, ring as soon as you know, not the morning of the visit.
- If someone else in the flat is home more, they can often be the one who lets us in.
The room can be used again once the treated surfaces are dry, which takes a few hours. If you sleep in the day after nights, plan the visit so the bedroom is dry before you need it, and follow the instructions you are given on the day.

Getting a Small Flat Ready When You Are Short of Time
Before each visit, strip the bed, hot-wash and dry the bedding and put it in sealed bags. Clear the floor so skirtings and the space under the bed can be reached, and leave furniture where it is. In a one-bedroom flat the living room fills up quickly with bags, so keep them off the sofa and on a hard floor if you have one.
If the washing machine is broken, shared or missing, the Hayes page deals with doing the laundry another way. Do not throw the mattress out to save time; carrying it down a stairwell spreads bedbugs, and it can usually be treated.
Between Visits: Work Bags, Uniforms and Your Own Bed
Keep sleeping in your own bed. It is tempting to move to the sofa or a friend’s place, but the treatment needs the bedbugs to come out to feed and cross the treated areas, and moving beds usually spreads them. Keep the bedroom door shut when you are out.
- Keep your work bag on a hard surface away from the bed, not on the floor beside it.
- Put uniform and work clothes straight into a bag for washing when you get in.
- Do not store clean uniform in the bedroom wardrobe during the course if another room will do.
- Leave treated skirtings and the bed frame alone unless the technician says otherwise.
Flats, Neighbours and Who to Tell
In a block or a converted house, tell your landlord or managing agent in writing and keep a copy. Who arranges and pays depends on the tenancy and on how the bedbugs got in, and we are pest controllers, not legal advisers. If you rent a room from a landlord who lives in the same house, the Uxbridge page is written for that situation.
If the visits simply cannot be fitted around your work, heat is usually one visit instead. The heat treatment page for Hillingdon explains how that is planned. It costs more.
The Price of a Course
Treatments start from £220, and chemical is the lower-priced of the two routes. The figure for your flat depends on how many rooms are involved and is given on the phone before anything is booked. Call 0800 955 1018 with your rota to hand. More on Hillingdon as a whole is on the borough page.

Bedbug Chemical Treatment Hillingdon — Questions
Can you come after I finish a night shift?
We can talk about it, but you will need the bedroom to sleep in and it has to be dry first. A day off or a late start usually works better.
What happens if I miss the second visit?
Ring and rebook as soon as possible. A long gap gives newly hatched bedbugs time to grow and lay eggs, which can mean an extra visit.
Can a flatmate let you in instead of me?
Often, yes. They need to know what has to be done before the visit and to keep out of the room until it is dry.
Should I sleep on the sofa until the course is finished?
No. Sleep in your own bed. Moving usually spreads bedbugs, and the treatment works best when the bed is used.
Do I have to wash my uniform differently?
Wash and dry it as the label allows and keep it bagged and away from the bed until it is clean. Ask us about anything that cannot be washed.
How much does chemical treatment cost for a flat?
Treatments start from £220. The figure depends on the rooms involved and is given on the phone.
