Start With the Suitcases
Luggage that has been through hotels, airports and other people's homes is worth checking first. Look along the zip tracks, the piping round the edges, inside the lining pockets and under the wheel housing. Cases left open on the guest-room floor, or pushed under the bed, sit right where bedbugs rest.

Close the cases and keep them in the Cranford guest room. Clothes that have been worn can go straight into the wash; clothes still packed are better left packed until we have looked. The washing machine guide explains why a hot tumble dry matters most for travel clothes.
Why the Bites May Come Weeks Later
A few bedbugs brought in with luggage can take a while to be noticed, and people react very differently to bites. Some visitors have no marks at all, while the host who swapped beds to make room does. That is why it is hard to say who brought them, and why it is rarely worth trying.
What matters more is where they are now. Check the guest bed, the sofa bed or airbed if one was brought out, the chair where coats and hand luggage were dropped on arrival, and the bedroom of whoever gave up their room. Those are the places a problem starts in a house full of visitors.
For itching, a pharmacist or GP can help, and visitors without a GP here can start at any pharmacy in Hounslow. Anyone who shows signs of a severe allergic reaction needs 999.
Keeping Guests Where They Are
It is tempting to move relatives from the spare room to the sofa, or to a cousin’s house nearby. Usually that spreads the problem. Leave guests in the room they are using, keep the bedding on a hot wash, and stop cases and bags moving between rooms. If you are unsure whether you have bedbugs at all, an inspection from £120 settles it.
Timing Treatment Around the Visit
If the stay has weeks left to run, treating now is usually better than waiting for the guests to leave, because they would take luggage away with them. Heat treatment includes the suitcases and their contents in the room and is usually one visit, which suits a family outing day. Chemical treatment costs less and guests can go back into the room once it is dry, but a second visit is normally needed. If the stay is nearly over, ask us to treat before the cases are packed for the return flight, so the relatives in Cranford do not carry them on. Bedbug Control Cranford — Questions
Should our relatives go to a hotel until it is treated?
Usually not. Their luggage would go with them and could carry bedbugs to the hotel and back. Staying put until treatment is the safer plan for containing it.
Can suitcases be treated?
Yes. In a heat treatment they stay in the room and are treated with it. With chemical, we will advise on the cases when we see them.
Do we need to tell our relatives?
It is kinder to. They will need to help with their own luggage and clothes, and they will want to know before they pack for the flight home.
They leave in a week. Is it too late to do anything?
No. Book treatment before they pack, and wash and tumble dry what goes back in the cases.
How much will it cost for a house in Cranford?
Treatments start at £220, and the figure depends on rooms and on heat or chemical. We give it by phone before booking.
