The Bed Nobody Is Ever Out Of
In a house where one parent sleeps by day and the other by night, the main bed can be in use almost around the clock. That is exactly what bedbugs like, and it makes preparing that room harder, because someone is nearly always in it. Plan the treatment around the sleeper, not the other way round.
The same goes for the sofa, if whoever gets home first dozes there rather than disturbing the other. A sofa used as a second bed can hold bedbugs just as well, so mention it when you ring and we will look at it on the same visit.

Splitting the Preparation Between Two People
Preparation that relies on both of you being in the same room at the same time tends not to happen. Divide it instead:
- Parent coming off nights: strips the main bed after waking, bags the bedding in the room and starts the wash.
- Parent coming off days: clears the children’s floors and bags toys and clothes in each room.
- Whoever is home the evening before: takes medication, aerosols and candles out if it is a heat day, and gets pets ready to go elsewhere.
- Both: write down what is done on a sheet on the fridge in your Hanworth kitchen, so the other can see it.
Only one adult needs to be home when we arrive to let us in and answer questions. It does not have to be the one who did the preparation.
One Long Day or Several Short Visits
Heat treatment is usually one visit and kills eggs as well, but the treated rooms are out of use for most of that day, so it suits a day when the night-shift parent can sleep somewhere quiet elsewhere in the house or at work, not in a room we are treating. Chemical treatment costs less, and each visit is short enough to fit between one parent getting home and the other leaving, but there are usually two or three visits about ten to fourteen days apart, and the house has to be ready each time.
For a family in Hanworth with children at school, a heat day during term time often works well. A chemical course can suit a household where nobody can give up a full day.
Keeping It From Coming Back
If either of you works at the airport or somewhere with shared staff rooms, work bags and uniforms are worth a routine of their own; our guide to bedbugs in airport workers’ uniforms and bags has one. The Hounslow borough page covers fitting treatment round households where people are rarely home together.
Bedbug Control Hanworth — Questions
Can the parent on nights sleep in the house on a heat day?
Not in any room being treated. If there is an untreated room with no signs, they may be able to rest there; we will talk it through on the phone.
Our children share rooms. Do all the bedrooms need doing?
Only the rooms with signs, plus any where we find them on the day. We check every bedroom so nothing is left to reinfest the rest.
Do both of us need to be there when you arrive?
No. One adult who can let us in and knows what has been prepared is enough.
We cannot do more than one visit. Which treatment should we choose?
Heat is usually the single-visit option. It costs more than chemical, and we give you both figures by phone so you can decide.
What does a treatment cost for a family house in Hanworth?
From £220, depending on how many rooms need treating and on heat or chemical.
One of us has bites and the other does not. Is that normal?
Yes. Some people do not react to bites at all. A pharmacist or GP can help with itchy skin; call 999 for signs of a severe allergic reaction.
