Bedbug Heat Treatment Hounslow

Tall period houses and full family homes: deciding which floors are heated and how one long day is organised.

A heat treatment in a four-storey period house is a different day from one in a two-bedroom flat. There are more rooms, more stairs, older fabric and a lot more belongings. This page is about scoping that day properly, whether the house is a big Chiswick terrace or a family home in Feltham that is simply full.

Scoping a Large House Before the Day

The first conversation is about the map of the house, not the bugs. Where does each person sleep, which rooms are guest rooms, is there a top-floor bedroom under the roof, a basement room, a garden room someone naps in? In a tall house the bites often turn up on one floor while the source is a floor above or below, because people carry bedding, bags and laundry up and down the stairs every day.

We do not heat rooms for the sake of it. A house with six bedrooms and signs in two of them may need those two plus the rooms either side and the landing between. That is decided from what you tell us, or from a Hounslow bedbug inspection if the picture is unclear. How the equipment kills every stage, eggs included, is on the London heat treatment page for the full explanation.

Period Features That Change the Plan

Victorian and Edwardian houses have details that a modern flat does not, and each one matters on the day. None of them rules heat out; they change where the fans point and how long the room takes.

  • High ceilings and bay windows. A large volume of air takes longer to bring up, and a bay is often the last corner to reach temperature. The thermal camera is how we know it has.
  • Open fireplaces and chimney breasts. A flue draws warm air away. We block it for the day, and we check the alcoves either side, where furniture tends to be pushed.
  • Old floorboards and deep skirtings. Gaps between boards and behind loose skirting are places bugs sit. They get the camera and, where the house warrants it, a light residual at the edges afterwards.
  • Built-in cupboards. Doors are opened so warm air reaches inside, and the contents are loosened rather than packed tight.

Antiques, Instruments and Things You Would Rather Not Risk

Older houses tend to hold older things. Veneered furniture, a piano, oil paintings, framed photographs, leather-bound books and a collection of records all deserve a word on the phone before the day. Some can stay with the room set up around them; some are better moved to a room that is not being treated, after they have been checked.

The usual removals apply as well: aerosols, candles, medication, vinyl, some electronics and house plants. We send the list. If you have an item you are unsure about, photograph it and ask. We would rather answer ten questions the week before than find a problem at noon.

A Crowded Family House

Elsewhere in the borough the challenge is less about architecture and more about how much is in each room. Bunk beds, a cot, school bags, toys under beds, a treadmill in the spare room. Heat copes with full rooms far better than spraying does, because it reaches into what is there rather than needing every surface cleared. What it does need is space for air to move, so tightly packed bags are opened and stacked loosely rather than left in heaps.

If a spare room is stacked to the ceiling with stored boxes, read the Osterley page before the day; it deals with exactly that room. And if the adults in the house are never home together, the Hanworth page covers arranging access around opposite shifts.

How the Day Runs Across Several Floors

  1. We arrive, walk every room on the plan with you, and agree which doors stay shut and which floor is started first.
  2. Equipment goes in and the rooms are sealed. The household leaves the treated floors for the day; pets go out of the house altogether.
  3. Each room is brought up and held, and checked with the thermal camera until the slow corners have caught up.
  4. Once the camera shows no cold spots, the machines move on. In a big house that may mean one floor after another rather than everything at once.
  5. We ring when the rooms are cooling. Once they have cooled, you can move back in that evening.

A large house may run into a long day. We tell you on the phone whether your room count fits one visit, and we do not squeeze the last floor in to make it fit.

The Price for a Bigger House

Treatments start from £220, and heat costs more than chemical because of the equipment and the time on site. A house with more rooms in the plan costs more than a single bedroom. Ring 0800 955 1018 with the number of rooms and where the signs are, and you get the figure on the phone before anything is booked. If only one bed is involved and it was found early, the chemical treatment page for Hounslow may suit you better. For the wider picture, see the Hounslow bedbug control page.

Questions

Bedbug Heat Treatment Hounslow — Questions

Do you have to heat every room in a large house?

No. We heat the rooms with signs, plus the rooms and landings around them where they may have moved. Rooms with no link to the affected ones are left out of the plan and the price.

Will heat damage old furniture or a piano?

Tell us about anything valuable or delicate when you ring. We advise item by item whether it stays, is moved out after checking, or needs something else.

Is an open fireplace a problem?

It changes the set-up rather than stopping it. We block the flue for the day so the warm air stays in the room.

Can the whole house be done in one day?

Often, yes, but it depends on the number of rooms. We tell you honestly on the phone whether it fits one visit.

Our rooms are full of belongings. Do we need to empty them?

No. Take out the heat-sensitive items on our list and loosen anything packed tight, so the air can move through. The rest stays and is treated where it is.

How much does heat cost for a big house?

Treatments start from £220 and heat for several rooms costs more than that. The exact figure comes on the phone from the room count.
