Before Your Own Things Go In
If you can, hold off moving your bed, clothes and soft furniture into the flat until the question is settled. An empty flat with a few leftover pieces is far easier to deal with than one where your belongings are now in the mix. Keep boxes sealed and stacked away from the leftover furniture if some have already arrived.
Take photos of what was left and of any signs you can see: spots on a mattress seam, shed skins in a drawer, live insects behind a headboard. Dated photos are useful whoever ends up arranging the work.
If some of your things are already inside, do not panic. Keep your bed pulled a little away from the walls, keep clothes in sealed bags rather than in any wardrobe that was left behind, and wash and tumble dry whatever you are using day to day. That limits how far they get while the treatment is being arranged.

Report It to the Council in Writing
Tell your housing officer or the repairs line in writing, with the photos, as soon as you can. Who arranges and pays for treatment depends on the tenancy and on when the problem started, and we are pest controllers rather than legal advisers. What we can say is that a written report made in your first days in the Feltham flat is much clearer than one made months later.
What to Do About the Leftover Furniture
The instinct is to drag it all down to the bins. Please do not do that before treatment unless we advise it. Carrying an infested sofa or mattress through a stairwell or lift can leave bedbugs on the way, including outside a neighbour’s door.
- Leave the pieces where they are for now
- Do not take anything from them for your own use, however good it looks
- If the council removes them, ask that they are wrapped before being carried out
- If they stay, they can be treated in place along with the rooms
Checking and Treating the Flat
If you are not certain what you have seen, a bedbug inspection from £120 confirms it before anyone spends money on treatment. In a Feltham flat that shares walls and a stairwell, chemical treatment leaves a residual in seams, frames and skirtings, which helps if bedbugs come back in from next door. Heat clears the rooms in one visit including the eggs, and a light residual can be added at the edges afterwards. If you are arranging it yourself, our guide on how to choose a bedbug treatment company lists what to ask any firm, including us, and the Hounslow borough page covers the wider picture.
Bedbug Control Feltham — Questions
Can I sleep in the flat before it is treated?
If your bed is already in, sleeping in it is usually better than carrying your bedding to a friend's or relative's, which tends to spread them. If you have not moved in yet, waiting a few days is sensible.
Can I use the wardrobe the last tenant left?
Not until the flat has been treated. Wardrobes have joints, backs and shelf pins where bedbugs rest, and your clothes would go straight into them.
Should I throw the old mattress out myself?
Not before treatment unless we have advised it. Moving it through the building is one of the easiest ways to spread them to other flats.
Will the council pay for this?
It depends on your tenancy and on the circumstances, and we cannot give legal advice. Report it in writing with photos and ask them directly.
How much is treatment for a flat in Feltham?
Treatments start from £220 and inspections from £120. The final figure depends on how many rooms and on heat or chemical, and we give it by phone before booking.
