Why It Suits a Small Rented Flat
In a studio or a one-bedroom flat there are only a few places for bedbugs to sit: the bed frame, the mattress seams, a headboard, the skirting behind the bed and perhaps a sofa. The technician can reach all of them in a visit of one to two hours, and you can go back in once the product has dried. The cost is the other reason. Many people renting near Kingston town centre are paying for the flat themselves, and chemical is the lower-priced of the two treatments. It does ask for more of your time, though, because you prepare the room before each visit.
Tell the Landlord or Agent First
Before booking, put what you have found in writing to your landlord or letting agent: an email with a photograph of a bug or the marks on the sheet is enough. Flat-Shares: Getting Everyone Ready on the Same Morning
In a shared flat, the visit only works if every room on the plan is ready. That means each housemate strips and hot-washes their own bedding, clears their own floor and is out of the flat while we work. One person with lectures, one on a late shift and one away for the weekend can make that harder than it sounds.
- Agree the date as a group before you ring us, and put it in a shared chat.
- Share the prep list we send, so nobody learns what is needed on the morning.
- Leave keys or arrange access for a room whose occupant is away.
- Keep the second date in everyone’s diary from the start. Missing it is the most common way a course fails.
Preparing When There Is Nowhere to Put Anything
Small flats have little storage, and the floor needs to be clear for the technician to reach the skirting. Wash what can be washed on a hot cycle, dry it fully, and keep it sealed in bags. If the flat has a washing machine but no dryer, a launderette with hot dryers helps. Clothes that have been through that stay sealed until the course is finished. Between the Visits
Carry on sleeping in your own bed. It feels wrong, but you are what draws the surviving bugs out across the treated surfaces, and moving onto a friend’s sofa risks taking them with you. I have nowhere to store bagged clothes. What do I do?
Keep the sealed bags in the treated room or a hard-floored area such as the kitchen, off the bed. Do not take them to someone else’s home.
Can I stay at my partner's place until it is finished?
We advise against it. Sleeping elsewhere usually spreads bedbugs to the second address and slows the course in your own flat.
