What to Tell Us When You Ring
Say that someone in the house is pregnant, which rooms they use, and whether they will be at home around the treatment. It is not something to be embarrassed about. It affects the method we suggest, the timing, and what we ask everyone to do before and after.
- Where the pregnant person sleeps and spends most of the day.
- Whether there is somewhere else they can be during the treatment, such as a relative’s home.
- Anything the midwife or GP has already told them.
- Whether there are other children in the house, and their ages.

Choosing Between Heat and Chemical
Heat treatment leaves no insecticide in the room, unless a light residual is put at the edges in a shared building, and that is something to discuss with us beforehand. It usually takes one visit, which means one day out of the house rather than repeated disruption. Some households prefer it for those reasons, although it costs more.
Chemical treatment works by leaving a residual insecticide in seams, frames and skirtings. Everyone stays out of the treated room until it is dry, and the course is usually two or three visits about ten to fourteen days apart. If you are considering it, talk it through with your midwife or GP as well as with us.
We do not describe either method as safe in general terms. We tell you what to do, how long to stay out, and when you can go back in, and those instructions are the ones to follow. Our page on chemical treatment in Brent explains what a course of visits asks of a household.
Bites During Pregnancy
Bites vary. Some people get itchy welts, others hardly react. Pregnancy can change how skin behaves, so do not rely on bites to tell you where the bedbugs are. Ask your midwife, GP or pharmacist before using any cream or antihistamine, and call 999 if anyone shows signs of a severe allergic reaction.
If you are not sure the marks are from bedbugs at all, an inspection from £120 confirms it before any treatment is booked. Our guide on how bedbugs find you explains why they settle around the bed.
Getting Ready Without Doing Too Much
Preparation involves stripping beds, carrying bags of washing and clearing floors. Share it out. The pregnant person should not be the one lifting mattresses or moving heavy furniture, and there is no need to: moving the bed is our job on the day. What matters is that bedding goes into sealed bags and a hot wash, and floors are clear.
Treatments start from £220, and the quote on the phone depends on how many rooms are involved and which method you choose. Households in Stonebridge can find more on shared rooms and busy homes on the Brent borough page.
Bedbug Control Stonebridge — Questions
Should I move out while the house is treated?
For heat, you will be out for the day. For chemical, you stay out of the treated rooms until they are dry. Moving out for weeks usually is not needed and can spread them to where you go.
Can the nursery be treated if it is already set up?
Yes. Tell us what is in it, including a cot or baby clothes, so we can say what needs washing and what should come out first.
Can bedbugs harm the baby?
We are pest controllers, so health questions are not ours to answer. Your midwife or GP is the person to ask about your own health and the pregnancy.
I have been bitten and my partner has not. Why?
People react differently, and some do not react at all. It does not mean the bedbugs are only on one side of the bed.
