Why Knowing First Matters in a Busy Household
In a house where relatives come and go, where cousins sleep over and grandparents stay for weeks, a suspicion of bedbugs affects more than the people who live there. If it is real, visitors need to know so they can check their own homes. If it is not, telling them causes worry and embarrassment for nothing. Either way, you need to know which it is before you pick up the phone to anyone.
What an inspection covers, room by room, is on the London bedbug inspections page for the full explanation. Here we cover how it helps a household decide what to say and to whom.
The Signs That Start the Worry
Most people ring because of one of a handful of things: bites nobody can explain, small marks on a pillowcase, or something small and brown found on a sheet. Each can point to bedbugs, and each has other causes. The guide to blood spots on sheets goes through what those marks can mean, and how bedbugs find you explains why they gather where people sleep.
Bites on their own tell you little. People react very differently, and some do not react at all, so one bitten person in a household does not mean the bedbugs are only in their bed. For skin reactions, a pharmacist or GP is the right person to ask; call 999 for any sign of a severe allergic reaction.

Getting Ready for the Visit
- Leave the beds as they are. Do not strip, vacuum or spray before we arrive; the evidence is what we come to read.
- Write down who sleeps where, including anyone who has stayed over recently and where they slept.
- Keep anything you have caught in a sealed bag or a jar, or take a clear photo of it.
- Tell us about pets, and if a guest room or a sofa bed has been used, make sure we can get to it.
- Have the dates in mind: when the bites started and when visitors last stayed. It helps us work out where to look hardest.
What You Can Tell People Afterwards
At the end of the visit we tell you in plain terms what we found and where, and you get a written report. That gives you something definite to say:
- If it is not bedbugs, you can tell anyone who asks that the house has been checked. We give our view of what else it might be, though skin conditions are for a pharmacist or GP.
- If it is bedbugs in one room, you can tell recent visitors which room, so they know whether they slept near it.
- If it has spread, you know which rooms, and relatives can be told to check their own beds and luggage before anything goes further.
If a visit is coming up, the choice of whether to delay it is yours. Treatment usually lets the house get back to normal quickly, and we can tell you roughly what the timing looks like once we know what is there.

If Treatment Is Needed
An inspection tells us which treatment fits the house. Where several rooms are involved, heat treatment in Brent deals with them in one visit; where a single bedroom is shared by several people, chemical treatment in Brent is often the practical course. Treatments start from £220, heat costs more than chemical, and the figure for your rooms is given on the phone before anything is booked. If the family has pets, the guide on pets is worth reading first.
What an Inspection Costs
Inspections start from £120. Larger houses are quoted on the number of rooms. Ring 0800 955 1018 and tell us how many bedrooms there are and who has been sleeping where. The Brent bedbug control page covers how bedbugs move around a busy household.
Bedbug Inspections Brent — Questions
Should I tell my relatives before or after the inspection?
That is your decision, but most families find it easier after, when they can say what was found and where. If someone is about to come and stay, you may want to mention that a check is booked.
Can you check the room a relative stayed in?
Yes. Tell us which rooms and beds visitors used, including sofa beds and air mattresses, and those are part of the inspection.
What if you find nothing?
Then you have a clear answer and a written report saying so. We give our view on what else might be causing the problem, and for skin reactions we suggest a pharmacist or GP.
Do I need an inspection if I have already found a live bedbug?
Not always. If you have a bedbug in a jar and spotting on the mattress, ring and talk about treatment. An inspection is most useful when you are unsure or need to know how far it has spread.
How much is a bedbug inspection in Brent?
Inspections start from £120, and larger houses are quoted on the number of rooms. You get the figure on the phone before anything is booked.
